In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 63,145 units, decreasing by 53.7 percent year on year and up 465.61 percent month on month, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). The increase in May can be attributed to the resumption of production after being suspended in April amid the coronavirus pandemic, SteelOrbis understands. In the January-May period of the year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 415,454 units, down by 33.6 percent year on year.
In May, passenger car output amounted to 43,264 units, falling by 55.1 percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 19,881 units, down 50.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the January-May period of the current year, passenger car output totaled 288,133 units, decreasing by 31.2 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 127,321 units, declining by 38.6 percent, both compared to the same period of 2019.
The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 38 percent in May, while the rate was 49.7 percent for the first five months of the year.
