Turkish motor vehicle output down eight percent in August

In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 71,463 units, falling by eight percent year on year and down 52 percent month on month, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 1,089,595 units, up 19 percent year on year.

In August alone, passenger car output amounted to 50,453 units, decreasing by four percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 21,010 units, down 19 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the January-August period of this year, passenger car output totaled 750,024 units, up 33 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 339,571 units, down four percent, both compared to the same period of 2016.

The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 45 percent in August this year, while the rate was 85 percent in the January- August period of the year.
