Turkish motor vehicle output down 34 percent in August

In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 47,175 units, decreasing by 34 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 1,034,097 units, decreasing 5.1 percent year on year.

In August alone, passenger car output amounted to 29,289 units, falling by 41.9 percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 17,886 units, down 14.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the January-August period of 2018, passenger car output totaled 683,069 units, down 8.9 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 351,028 units, up 3.4 percent, both compared to the same period of 2017.

The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 28.6 percent in August this year, while the rate was 78.1 percent in the January-August period of the year.
