Japanese auto output down 0.6 percent in January 2026

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in January this year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 677,460 units, down by 0.6 percent compared to the same month of 2025.

Domestic automobile sales in January in Japan stood at 367,752 vehicles, decreasing by 2.2 percent as compared with the same month of 2025.

In the meantime, the country’s automobile exports in January amounted to 298,080 units, down by 0.8 percent year on year.
