According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 53,277 mt in January 2026, up 4.5 percent from December and down 60.4 percent from January 2025 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $37.57 million in January this year, compared to $34.83 million in December and $102.98 million in January 2025.
The US imported the most plates in coil from South Korea in January with 20,573 mt, compared to 15,594 mt in December and 13,377 mt in January 2025. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in January include Canada with 16,845 mt, Turkey with 3,736 mt, Brazil with 3,657 mt, and Sweden with 2,953 mt.
