According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 26,403 mt in February 2026, down 50.4 percent from January and down 65.4 percent from February 2025 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $17.59 million in February this year, compared to $37.57 million in January and $56.4 million in February 2025.
The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in February with 16,192 mt, compared to 16,845 mt in January and 42,011 mt in February 2025. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in February include Japan with 3,958 mt and Mexico with 2,385 mt.
