In March this year, Turkey’s coking coal imports amounted to 427,598 metric tons, up by 102.2 percent compared to February and by 113.5 percent year on year, according to the preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these imports totaled $83.11 million, increasing by 119.2 percent compared to the previous month and by 109.6 percent year on year.
In the January-March period, Turkey's coking coal imports amounted to 1.12 million mt, up 22.8 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 29.0 percent to $221.20 million, both year on year.

In the January-March period of 2025, Australia was by far Turkey’s largest coking coal supplier, followed by the US and Russia. In the same period of 2026, however, the ranking changed significantly: imports from the US rose by 266.5 percent year on year to 551,718 mt, moving the country into first place, while imports from Australia decreased by 20.7 percent to 458,009 mt, pushing it down to second place. Imports from Russia also fell by 40 percent to 110,037 mt. The overall picture shows that, although Turkey’s total coking coal import tonnage increased by 22.8 percent year on year, this growth was mainly driven by purchases from the US, while the declines in imports from Australia and Russia pointed to a clear shift in the supply distribution.
