In February this year, Turkey’s coking coal imports amounted to 211,514 metric tons, down by 56.0 percent compared to January and up by 5.9 percent year on year, according to the preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these imports totaled $37.9 million, decreasing by 62.1 percent compared to the previous month and up by 21.9 percent year on year.
In the January-February period this year, Turkey's coking coal imports amounted to 692,165 mt, down 2.7 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 4.7 percent to $138.1 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey’s largest coking coal import source was the US, with 391,820 mt, up by 408.8 percent year on year. The US was followed by Australia with 245,325 mt, down by 50.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and Russia with 55,020 mt, down by 59.7 percent year on year.
Monthly data revealed significant volatility, with February imports falling sharply by 56.0 percent compared to January, suggesting that purchases were made in large, periodic cargoes rather than following a steady flow. On the supply side, the US emerged as the dominant supplier with a 408.8 percent surge to 391,820 mt, while imports from traditional sources such as Australia and Russia declined, highlighting a notable shift in sourcing patterns. Overall, the data indicate that Turkey’s coking coal import market remains driven by buying strategies and supplier-based shifts rather than a fundamental change in demand trends.
