In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 35,174 units, decreasing by 53 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 26,976 units, down 50.9 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 455,943 units, decreasing by 20.4 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 857,479 units, down 3.6 percent, while passenger car exports decreased by 8.3 percent to 573,278 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 242,390 small trucks, up eight percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports increased by 12.1 percent to $21.26 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $8.15 billion, rising by 4.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In August, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 23,022 units, decreasing by 54.4 percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 18,587 units, down 54 percent, year on year. In the January-August period of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 281,531, falling by 22.7 percent, while passenger car imports totaled 229,303 units, declining by 22 percent, both compared to the same period of 2017.
