According to a statement from Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the signing ceremony held on April 27 the first step has been taken towards establishing the country’s first ‘hydrogen valley’, the HYSouthMarmara Project, and the first local green hydrogen facility, the South Marmara Hydrogen Coast Platform Guided Project.

With these projects, Turkey is expected to become a hydrogen exporter. Supported under the Horizon Europe Program, HYSouthMarmara will be funded with €7.45 million from the European Union.

Considering that steel producers are focusing on green hydrogen as part of the global energy transition, these projects will help Turkey gain energy independence and reduce carbon emissions.
