Turkey's Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has announced that Turkish steelmaker Erdemir, part of OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group, has received a positive environmental impact assessment decision for its planned solar power plant in the Çaldıran district of Van.
The TRY 2.8 billion project will have an installed capacity of 85 MWe/116 MWm and will be developed across approximately 113.4 hectares. The facility will comprise 185,600 solar panels with a unit capacity of 625 Wp and 243 inverters, each rated at 350 kWe.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate approximately 200 million kWh of electricity annually. The output will be offset against Erdemir's electricity consumption, supporting the company's efforts to increase renewable energy use, manage energy costs and reduce the carbon intensity of its steelmaking operations.
