Turkish integrated steelmaker OYAK Mining and Metallurgy Group has announced that Eregli Demir Celik T.A.S. (Erdemir), a part of the company, has decided to build a new blast furnace instead of modernizing the existing blast furnace No. 2 located in Karadeniz Eregli plant.

Accordingly, it is planned that the new blast furnace to be located in the southern area of the existing blast furnace No. 2 with the production capacity of 1,850 m3. With the commissioning of the new project, the existing technology will be updated and the production will continue with the similar capacity for 15 years. In addition, Erdemir has also decided to start the second hot rolling mill quality and sustainability investment project, which aims to improve the production quality, increase internal and external customer satisfaction and profitability.

Meanwhile, Iskenderun Demir Celik A.S. (Isdemir), also a part of the OYAK Mining and Metallurgy Group, will build a new blast furnace instead of modernizing the existing blast furnace No. 1 at Iskenderun plant in order to increase production capacity. With this project the capacity of the plant will be increased to around seven million mt per year from 5.8 million mt per year.

Total investment value is anticipated to reach $1.5 billion.
