Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk (NLMK) is preparing to commission its new 300 mt capacity basic oxygen furnace (BOF) at its main production site in Lipetsk. This new facility will increase NLMK's steelmaking capacity by 36 percent to 12.4 million mt per year.

The project is being carried out jointly with Austrian plantmaker Siemens VAI and Ukraine-based Azovmash under NLMK's ongoing technical upgrade program to increase low-cost BOF steel output at NLMK assets in Russia. Hot testing for the converter is scheduled to start in the current month.

The investments so far have reached approximately RUR 14.8 billion ($484.8 million)
