In March this year, Turkey’s wire rod exports amounted to 151,970 metric tons, up by 128.3 percent compared to February and down by 18.1 percent year on year, according to the preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $88.53 million, increasing by 126.9 percent compared to the previous month and decreasing by 17.9 percent year on year.

In the January-March period, Turkey's wire rod exports amounted to 255,947 mt, down 11.3 percent, while the value of these exports decreased by 10.7 percent to $149.49 million, both year on year.

Turkey’s wire rod exports - Last 12 months

In the given period, Turkey’s largest wire rod export destination was Romania which received 133,280 mt, up 6.8 percent year on year. Romania was followed by Australia with 32,334 mt, up 152.7 percent, and Bulgaria with 25,018 mt, up 3.3 percent.

Despite a clear recovery in export tonnage in March compared to February, Turkey’s wire rod exports in the January-March period remained down by 11.3 percent year on year at 255,947 mt. Export revenues in the same period decreased by 10.7 percent to $149.49 million, indicating that the declines in tonnage and value moved in parallel. Romania maintained its position as by far the largest export market, with Turkey’s wire rod exports to the country rising by 6.8 percent year on year to 133,280 mt, while the 152.7 percent increase in shipments to Australia was also notable. By contrast, declines in exports to Italy, Kosovo, Libya and Syria weighed on overall performance. The overall picture shows that, despite the strong month-on-month increase seen in March, the year-on-year recovery in Turkey’s wire rod exports in the three-month period remained limited.
