Australia-based steel producer Liberty OneSteel, a subsidiary of UK-based GFG Alliance, has announced that it has supplied the first batch of 14,000 mt of steel rail for Australia’s Melbourne-Brisbane Inland Rail project.

The contract to provide steel rail for the first phase of the 1,700 km Inland Rail project, which will link Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, was signed with the government-owned Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) in late 2017.

Up to 262,000 mt of steel, including rail, reinforcing bars and structural steel for the project’s bridges, culverts and sleepers, will be required to supply the project in full.
