Japan’s steel scrap exports up 89 percent in January

In January this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 571,533 mt, rising by 89.0 percent compared to 302,422 mt in the same month of 2022, according to customs statistics.

During the given month, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 308,475 mt, up by 37.4 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 134,466 mt and 34,187 mt of scrap, up 309.4 percent and up 173.4 percent, respectively, year on year.
