Japan’s steel scrap exports up 35 percent in January-February

In February this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 529,123 mt, rising by 3.2 percent compared to 512,866 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-February period this year, the country exported 1.10 million mt of scrap, increasing by 35.0 percent year on year.

During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 526,985 million mt, up by 3.2 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 288,168 mt and 102,701 mt of scrap, up 93.3 percent and up 154.6 percent, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 50,961 mt in the January-February period this year, up from 40,207 mt in the same period of the previous year.
