Japan’s steel scrap exports up 17.2 percent in January-March

In March this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 575,778 mt, declining by 6.4 percent compared to 614,895 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-March period this year, the country exported 1.68 million mt of scrap, increasing by 17.2 percent year on year.

During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 758,370 million mt, down by 11.0 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 462,194 mt and 197,639 mt of scrap, up 82.8 percent and up 143.1 percent, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 50,961 mt in the January-March period this year, down from 111,549 mt in the same period of the previous year.
