In August this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 567,508 mt, increasing by 14.6 percent compared to 495,242 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-August period this year, the country exported 4.6 million mt of scrap, increasing by 14.1 percent year on year.
During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1,957,612 mt, down by 6.5 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 1,016,878 mt and 661,877 mt of scrap, up 12.7 percent and up 79.8 percent, respectively, year on year.
Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 282,718 mt in the January-August period this year, up from 190,842 mt in the same period of the previous year.
