Japan’s new ship export orders down 57.2 percent in April 2026 from March

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April this year moved down by 57.2 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, decreasing to 16 general cargo ships, compared to 27 ships recorded in March, totaling 664,800 gross tons.

In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 60 ships with an aggregate of 2.93 million gross tons, up 5.4 percent year on year.

On the other hand, in March, Japan delivered 17 ships for export, totaling 792,125 gross tons, compared to 24 ships totaling 1.18 million gross tons recorded in February.

Meanwhile, in the January-March period this year, Japan delivered 77 ships for export, totaling 3.53 million gross tons, increasing by 19.3 percent year on year.
