According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April this year moved down by 21.7 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, increasing to 19 ships, compared to 16 ships recorded in March, totaling 499,170 gross tons, including 16 bulk carriers and three general cargo ships.
In the first five months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 106 ships with an aggregate of 4.04 million gross tons, down 31.1 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in May, Japan delivered eight ships for export, totaling 330,897 gross tons, compared to 17 ships totaling 610,637 gross tons recorded in April.
Meanwhile, in the January-May period this year, Japan delivered 85 ships for export, totaling 3.41 million gross tons, decreasing by 4.1 percent year on year.
