Indian state-run miner NMDC Limited will resume operations at its Donimalai iron ore mines in the southern Indian state of Karnataka which has remained closed since November last, a company statement said on Thursday, July 18.

The company said that operations at Donimalai will be resumed as per directions of Karnataka High Court.

NMDC Limited shut down operations at the mines in November 2018, following the Karnataka government’s decision to renew the mining lease but to incorporate a provision for the company to pay 80 percent premium on iron ore sales from the mine.

NMDC challenged the clause in mining lease renewal before Karnataka High Court.

The Donimalai iron ore block is estimated to have a reserve of around 143 million mt.
