The Indian steel industry achieved a crude steel production of 14.09 million mt in April 2026, a rise of 5.8 percent year on year, a ministry of steel statement said on Wednesday, May 6, citing provisional government data.
According to the statement, finished steel production for the month has been estimated at 13.05 million mt, a rise of 3.4 percent year on year.
India’s finished steel consumption in April 2026 came to around 12.99 percent, rising by eight percent year on year, driven by demand from sectors like infrastructure and manufacturing, the statement said.
On the global trade front, Indian imports during the month totaled 0.68 million mt and its exports amounted to 0.47 million mt, up 30.8 percent and 24.9 percent year on year, respectively.
