Euro area industrial output down 0.8 percent in July from June

In July this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-28, as compared with June. Industrial production in June had declined by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In July this year compared with July 2017, industrial production fell by 0.1 percent in the euro area and was up by 0.8 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to June, in July this year the production of capital goods increased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods fell by 1.3 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28. In July this year, the production of energy was up by 0.7 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods declined by 1.9 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods moved down by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in July the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Denmark (3.6%), Ireland (2.8%) and Latvia (1.8%), and the highest decreases in Malta (6.3%), Croatia (5%) and Sweden (4.1%).

As compared to the same month of 2017, in July 2018 production of energy decreased by 2.1 percent in the euro area and declined by 0.9 percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by 0.1 percent in the euro area and increased by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved up by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 2.1 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In July this year, production of non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.5 percent in the euro area and rose by 0.5 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods was down by 2.3 percent in the euro area and rose by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in July the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Poland  (7.9%), the Czech Republic (6.7%) and Slovenia (5.9%), while decreases were observed in Malta (6.4%), Ireland (6.2%) and the Netherlands (2.1%).
