In December last year, new car registrations totaled 1,21 million units in the European Union (EU), increasing by 21.7 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
All major European markets posted growth in December: France (+27.7%), Germany (+19.5 %), Italy (+12.5%), Spain (+6.6%) and the UK (+3.4%).
Meanwhile, in 2019, new passenger car registrations in the EU increased to 15.34 million units, up 1.2 percent year on year. Results were diverse among the five major EU markets last year, with Germany (+5.0%), France (+1.9%) and Italy (+0.3%) posting growth, and registrations falling in Spain (-4.8%) and the United Kingdom (-2.4%).
