Turkish mills’ ship scrap purchase prices increase to $355/mt

Three Izmir-based Turkish steel producers have increased their ship scrap procurement prices by $4-13/mt this week. As a result, the general range settled at $320-355/mt, $4/mt higher on the upper end. The lower end represented by Habaş has not changed for weeks now, though the other producers’ prices have consolidated at $355/mt delivered. This level is higher than the most recent ex-US scrap booking closed at $353/mt CFR, signaling that Turkish mills in Izmir are satisfying their high-grade scrap needs from ship scrap. With ship scrap prices increasing to such levels, it is thought that they are very close to hitting their peak, if they have not already done so.

In Turkey’s Izmir region, the ship scrap purchase prices of local steelmakers are as follows:

Producer   Price ($/mt) Price change ($/mt)
Özkan Demir Çelik 355 +5
Habaş 320 0
Ege Çelik 355 +4
İDÇ 355 +13
Medfer 355 +5

All the above prices are for delivery to mill by truck.
