The Brazilian sole producer of tinplate, CSN, is selling the product with less than 0.5mm thickness in the domestic market at BRL3,636/mt ($1,428/mt), ex-works full taxes, up 3.2 percent in BRL and stable in $ in one month, an industry source told SteelOrbis.
According to the country’s industry, development and foreign trade, MDIC, exports of the product in October have reached 9,800 mt, up 125 percent from September, at an average FOB price of $1,082/mt, 3 percent lower.
The increased volume reflects exports to Latin American countries doubled to 5,600 mt, while exports to Asia and the Middle East reached 1,300 mt and 1,700 mt, respectively, against no exports in September.
The wide difference between Brazilian domestic and international prices of tinplates gave rise to an import market for the product with less than 0.5mm in thickness, having achieved in volume 1,900 mt in October, the double of September and higher figure in the year, at an average FOB price 2 percent higher, $1,120/mt.
