Prices of tinplates went down in both Brazilian domestic and export markets.
In the domestic market, the country’s sole producer CSN is selling the product in the BRL3,523/mt–BRL3,636/mt ($1,435/mt-$1,481/mt) range, FOB full taxes, compared to BRL3,600/mt-3,680/mt one month ago.
For exports, the FOB Brazilian port price achieved in September was BRL1,115/mt, 4.2 percent less than in August, while the volume exported slumped by 61 percent to 4,400 mt, reflecting sales to Latin American countries reduced by 59 percent to 2,800 mt, sales to the EU reduced by 34 percent to 1,500 mt and no sales to African countries, against 1,800 mt in August.
The wide difference between Brazilian domestic and international prices of tinplates gave rise to an import market for the product with less than 0.5mm in thickness, having achieved in volume 938 mt in September, the highest figure so far in the year.
