US tool steel imports drop 23.1 percent in September

According to census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tool steel totaled 10,125 mt in September 2018, down 23.1 percent from August and down 32.5 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, tool steel imports totaled $26.5 million in September 2018, compared to $34.8 million in the previous month and $32.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tool steel from Japan in September, with 3,094 mt, compared to 2,321 mt in August and 5,081 mt in September 2017. Other top sources of imported tool steel in September include Germany, with 2,571 mt; and China, with 1,005 mt.
