According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tool steel totaled 9,382 mt in June 2019, down 11.3 percent in May and down 32.1 percent from June 2018 levels. By value, tool steel imports totaled $26.3 million in June 2019, compared to $31.6 million in the previous month and $34.4 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most tool steel from Japan in June, with 3,825 mt, compared to 3,992 mt in May and 3,754 mt in June 2018. Other top sources of imported tool steel in June include China, with 1,177 mt; and Germany, with 1,143 mt.
