US structural pipe and tube imports up 24.3 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 38,943 mt in May 2023, up 24.3 percent from April and up 16.4 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube imports totaled $55.7 million in May 2023, compared to $51.7 million in April and $68.8 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in May, with 21,433 mt, compared to 18,873 mt in April and 17,451 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in May include Mexico, with 8,767 mt; and South Korea, with 5,846 mt.
