According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 35,601 mt in August 2019, up 12.9 percent from July but down 3.4 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube imports totaled $40.7 million in August 2019, compared to $37.2 million in the previous month and $41.4 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in August, with 19,966 mt, compared to 18,812 mt in July and 15,440 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in August include Mexico, with 5,701 mt; Korea, with 4,102 mt; India, with 1,669 mt; and Thailand, with 1,012 mt.
