US structural pipe and tube imports down 5.3 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 38,560 mt in August 2023, up 38.2 percent from July and up 24.2 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, mechanical tubing imports totaled $63.4 million in August 2023, compared to $45.9 million in July and $66.3 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in August, with 20,027 mt, compared to 17,243 mt in July and 19,692 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in August include South Korea, with 6,809 mt; Mexico, with 6,355 mt; and Germany, with 1,728 mt.
