US structural pipe and tube imports down 30.9 percent in September

According to census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 25,435 mt in September 2018, down 30.9 percent from August and down 50.5 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube imports totaled $27.8 million in September 2018, compared to $41.4 million in the previous month and $54.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in September, with 14,848 mt, compared to 15,440 mt in August and 21,434 mt in September 2017. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in September include Japan, with 3,936 mt; and Mexico, with 3,154 mt. There were no other significant sources (1,000 mt or more) for US structural pipe and tube imports in September.
