US structural pipe and tube imports down 2 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 29,898 mt in January 2020, down 2.0 percent from December and down 20.0 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube imports totaled $29.7 million in January 2020, compared to $32.2 million in the previous month and $37.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in January, with 19,842 mt, compared to 19,647 mt in December and 14,403 mt in January 2019. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in January include Mexico, with 4,155 mt; and Korea, with 3,678 mt.
