US steel exports up 3.7 percent in July

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in July 2019 increased 3.7 percent from June to total 562,998 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 5.4 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in July totaled $812.8 million, compared to $812.7 million in June and $876.6 million in July 2018.

Steel exports to Canada in July decreased 0.7 percent from the preceding month to 251,741 mt, and decreased 3.3 percent from July 2018. Exports to Mexico increased 12.3 percent month-on-month to 258,274 mt, which is down 1.6 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in July include: India, with 4,330 mt; Brazil, with 3,863 mt; Dominican Republic, with 3,356 mt; China, with 2,631 mt; and United Kingdom, with 2,570 mt.

Major steel products exported in July include HDG, at 98,488 mt; cut-length plates, at 68,266 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 39,315 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 39,139 mt; and plates in coils, at 28,645 mt.
