US steel exports drop 1.5 percent in November

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in November decreased 1.5 percent from October to total 800,740 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 21.0 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in November totaled $1.07 billion, compared to $1.06 billion in October and $854.1 million in November 2016.

Steel exports to Canada in November increased 0.1 percent from the preceding month to 391,886 mt, and increased 17.7 percent from November 2016. Exports to Mexico decreased by 4.2 percent month-on-month to 304,217 mt, which is up 14.7 percent from the same month a year ago. 

Other top destinations for US steel exports in November include: Italy, with 10,785 mt; Malta, with 8,719 mt; Honduras, with 8,076 mt; India, with 7,865 mt; and Belgium, with 4,927 mt.

Major steel products exported in November include HDG, at 107,893 mt; cut-length plates, at 92,103 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 74,176 mt; heavy structural shapes, at 45,218 mt; and rebar, at 42,963 mt.
