US steel exports down 6.3 percent in July

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in July 2023 decreased 6.3 percent from June to total 766,237 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 13.8 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in July totaled $1.34 billion, compared to $1.44 billion in June and $1.31 million in July 2022.

Steel exports to Canada in July decreased 2.8 percent to 340,694 mt, and increased 8.9 percent from July 2022. Exports to Mexico decreased 10.4 percent month-on-month to 380,652 mt, which is up 20.8 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in July include: Dominican Republic, with 6,973 mt; Brazil, with 3,711 mt; China, with 2,526 mt; India, with 2,309 mt; and Germany, with 1,441 mt.

Major steel products exported in July include HDG, at 120,010 mt; cut-length plates, at 99,277 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 82,599 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 71,674 mt; and beams, at 34,568 mt.
