US steel exports down 5.8 percent in February

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in February 2019 decreased 5.8 percent from January to total 543,794 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 25.6 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in February totaled $818.4 million, compared to $861.8 million in January and $1.02 billion in February 2018.

Steel exports to Canada in February decreased 12.2 percent from the preceding month to 221,338 mt, and decreased 37.8 percent from February 2018. Exports to Mexico decreased by 6.7 percent month-on-month to 255,614 mt, which is down 11.3 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in February include: China, with 6,143 mt; India, with 4,421 mt; Brazil, with 4,053 mt; Belgium, with 3,659 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 3,274 mt.

Major steel products exported in February include HDG, at 102,559 mt; cut-length plates, at 60,084 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 44,981 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 37,940 mt; and plates in coils, at 27,314 mt.
