According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in April 2023 decreased 13.3 percent from March to total 696,932 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 7.4 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in April totaled $1.24 billion, compared to $1.43 billion in March and $1.39 million in April 2022.
Steel exports to Canada in April decreased 12.4 percent to 341,207 mt, and decreased 2.6 percent from April 2022. Exports to Mexico decreased 16.1 percent month-on-month to 304,305 mt, which is down 7.9 percent from the same month a year ago.
Other top destinations for US steel exports in April include: Dominican Republic, with 5,884 mt; Pakistan, with 2,736 mt; UAE, with 2,574 mt; China, with 2,561 mt; and Singapore with 2,419 mt.
Major steel products exported in April include HDG, at 109,191 mt; cut-length plates, at 86,509 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 55,237 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 56,327 mt; and beams, at 41,482 mt.
