US hot rolled bar imports down 20.0 percent in September

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 50,684 mt in September 2023, down 20.0 percent from August and up 69.7 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $67.8 million in September 2023, compared to $91.0 million in August and $82.3 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in September, with 27,841 mt, compared to 30,651 mt in August and 29,874 in September 2022. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in September include Japan, with 5,425 mt; South Korea, with 4,625 mt; Turkey, with 3,752 mt; and Mexico, with 3,284 mt.
