US hot rolled bar exports fall 0.5 percent in December, drop 9.7 percent for full-year 2016

US exports of hot rolled bars totaled 29,164 mt in December, down 0.5 percent from November and down 19.3 percent from December 2015 levels. By value, hot rolled bar exports totaled $29.7 million in December, compared to $30.7 million in the previous month and $37.5 million the same month last year.
 
The US shipped the most hot rolled bars to Mexico in December, with 14,204 mt, compared to 13,666 mt in November and 22,761 mt in December 2015. Other top destinations included Canada, with 11,954 mt. No other destinations with significant tonnage (over 1,000 mt) were recorded for the month.
 
As for the full year 2016, US hot rolled bar exports totaled 396,125 mt, a 9.7 percent decrease from 2015. By value, exports totaled $397.4 million in 2016, down 22.0 percent from 2015.
