US cold finished bar imports up 5.9 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold finished bar totaled 10,636 mt in August 2023, up 5.9 percent from July but down 9.9 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, cold finished bar imports totaled $20.7 million in August 2023, compared to $20.3 million in July and $23.3 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most cold finished bar from Italy in August, with 2,351 mt, compared to 2,242 mt in July and 3,450 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported cold finished bar in August include Canada, with 1,726 mt; Germany, with 1,694 mt; Mexico, with 1,502 mt; and China, with 1,048 mt.
