US beam imports up 76.0 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 68,841 mt in April 2023, up 76.0 percent from March and up 11.0 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $74.2 million in April 2023, compared to $46.4 million in March and $77.8 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most beams from Spain in April, with 15,617 mt, compared to 1,251 mt in March and 9,658 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported beam in April include Mexico, with 11,315 mt; United Kingdom, with 9,515 mt; Canada, with 9,344 mt; and South Korea, with 8,200 mt.
