According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 37,798 mt in August 2023, up 9.3 percent from July but down 5.8 percent from August 2022. By value, beam exports totaled $48.2 million in August, compared to $42.4 million in the previous month and $58.4 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in August with 24,298 mt, compared to 25,016 mt in July and 25,516 mt in August 2022. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 7,539 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 4,414 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in August.
