US beam exports down 13.4 percent in July

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 34,567 mt in July 2023, down 13.4 percent from June and down 15.7 percent from July 2022. By value, beam exports totaled $42.4 million in July, compared to $55.9 million in the previous month and $63.0 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in July with 25,016 mt, compared to 26,058 mt in June and 33,092 mt in July 2022. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 6,739 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 2,207 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in July.
