US beam imports down 18.2 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 55,496 mt in August 2023, down 18.2 percent from July and down 24.9 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $59.4 million in August 2023, compared to $72.5 million in July and $95.5 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most beams from Luxembourg in August, with 14,713 mt, compared to 11,521 mt in July and 16,047 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported beams in August include South Korea, with 13,386 mt; Mexico, with 9,754 mt; Canada, with 7,165 mt; and China, with 5,517 mt.
