According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 58,294 mt in June 2023, up 62.6 percent from May but down 24.9 percent from June 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $63.4 million in June 2023, compared to $41.9 million in May and $103.6 million in June 2022.
The US imported the most beams from South Korea in June, with 17,102 mt, compared to 7,313 mt in May and 37,251 mt in June 2022. Other top sources of imported beams in June include Mexico, with 16,365 mt; Canada, with 7,578 mt; China, with 5,592 mt; and Germany, with 4,083 mt.
