US beam imports up 16.4 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 67,825 mt in July 2023, up 16.4 percent from June and up 20.3 percent from July 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $72.5 million in July 2023, compared to $63.4 million in June and $78.1 million in July 2022.

The US imported the most beams from Luxembourg in July, with 11,521 mt, compared to 3,607 mt in June and 93 mt in July 2022. Other top sources of imported beams in July include United Kingdom, with 11,094 mt; Mexico, with 10,360 mt; UAE, with 8,626 mt; and Canada, with 7,847 mt.
