US beam imports up 10.1 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 48,482 mt in July 2019, up 10.1 percent from June and up 6.6 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $34.9 million in July 2019, compared to $28.9 million in the previous month and $33.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most beams from Luxembourg in July, with 18,987 mt, compared to 16,560 mt in June and 15,988 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported beams in July include Korea, with 8,827 mt; Macedonia with 5,464 mt; Mexico, with 7,436 mt; and Canada, with 4,646 mt.
